Fines and Penalties for Running a Red Light
If you run a red light, the Delaware red light ticket you’re given
can really hurt your wallet. If you’re caught by a police officer, the
violation is reported as a criminal offense, and it will be reported to
your insurance company and noted on your record, along with the
accumulation of points on your license. Being caught by a Delaware
intersection camera is just a civil offense, and your insurance and
record are not affected.
You’ll also have to pay a fine. Fines for running a red light are as
follows:
• Base violation fine: $112.50
• Fine, 30 days late: $122.50
• Fine, 60 days late: $132.50
• Fine, 90 days late: $142.50
These prices took effect January 21, 2008. Previously, the basic
violation only came attached with a $75 fine, and late fees were not as
high.
