DWI Statistics
Delaware drunk driving causes thousands of accidents every year. In
2006, 29% of all traffic fatalities involved someone with a BAC of
0.08% or higher. Keep in mind that this sometimes meant a passenger or
pedestrian was drunk, but in the vast majority of cases, a drunk driver
caused the accident. Alcohol-related deaths on the highway reached an
all-time high in 1990 when 86 people were killed in Delaware DUI
accidents.
Many times, thankfully, Delaware DUI arrests are made before an
accident occurs. In 2001, there were over 4,000 Delaware DUI arrests
made. Over 1,400 of them involved a car accident, but in many cases,
these drunk drivers were pulled over before an accident occurred.
