Levels of Auto Insurance
Delaware is a tort state, which means that you have to buy auto
insurance to protect the other people on the road, not yourself. Most
Delaware auto insurance companies offer a “basic” coverage plan, which
allows you purchase the state minimums, as listed previously. However,
it is recommended that you boost you coverage to at least the following
levels:
- $100,000 in bodily injury liability per person
- $300,000 in bodily injury liability per accident, in total
- $50,000 in property damage liability per accident
- $15,000/$30,000 in PIP
- $100,000 in uninsured motorist bodily injury liability
- Collision insurance with a $500 deductible
- Comprehensive insurance addition
If you’ve been in a number of accidents or are otherwise a high risk
candidate, you can still get Delaware auto insurance though the
Delaware Auto Insurance Plan (DAIP). This program, run through the
state, provides the minimum legal coverage to drivers in the high-risk
pool who have been turned down for auto insurance by private
companies.
