Insurance Requirements
In Delaware, you must carry liability insurance if you want to drive
legally. Every state has different liability minimums. Delaware auto
insurance minimums are as follows:
- $15,000 in bodily injury liability per person
- $30,000 in bodily injury liability per accident, in total
- $10,000 in property damage liability per accident
You also have to cover PIP insurance in Delaware. PIP stands for
Personal Injury Protection, and this coverage pays for your medical
expenses and lost wages (and those of your passengers), even if you
were at fault. Should another person be at fault, your auto insurance
company is responsible for paying your bills and then settling with the
other person or his/her insurance company, giving you piece of mind.
You must cover yourself with the same amount of PIP insurance as bodily
injury liability insurance - $15,000 per person and $30,000 per
accident in total.
In addition, you can choose to purchase collision, comprehensive, and
uninsured motorist insurance. Law doesn’t require these types of
insurance, but for most people, purchasing the extra coverage is a good
idea.
